The Junior Wantok Cup is the children's edition of the Wantok Cup. Its inaugural edition was due to be hosted in Honiara on September 21, 2008. The competition was to include a single match, involving football teams consisting in players aged under 14: one from the Solomon Islands (host country) and one from Papua New Guinea.〔("Junior Wantok Cup Scheduled for September" ), ''Solomon Times'', August 8, 2008〕〔("PNG Under 14 to Visit Honiara" ), ''Solomon Times'', September 16, 2008〕 However, the official inaugural Junior Wantok Cup eventually took place in January 2010, hosted by Vanuatu. All players were aged under 15. Five teams took part: a national team from the Solomon Islands; a national team from New Caledonia, and three teams from the host country: "Vanuatu South Islands", "Vanuatu North Islands" and "Vanuatu Olympic".
